Sam Cherry is a senior partner in the firm of Cochran, Cherry, Givens & Smith with offices located in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Atlanta, Memphis and two locations in Alabama. He attended undergraduate school at Samford University in Birmingham, where he received a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration in 1972. Mr. Cherry graduated from Cumberland School of Law with a Juris Doctorate in 1976, and is currently a member of the Alabama, Tennessee and Washington, DC Bars. He has been admitted to practice before the 10th and 11th Circuit Court of Appeals and has been specially admitted pro hac vice in the states of Florida, Mississippi, Georgia, New Mexico, Ohio, Kansas, Tennessee, Louisiana and Arkansas, where he has served as lead counsel on products liability and other claims. Mr. Cherry has been active in the Alabama Trial Lawyers Association, serving as a member of the Executive Committee for ATLA since 1982. He has also been a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America since 1980 and has been a sustaining member of that organization since 1990. Mr. Cherry has been a guest speaker at various trial lawyer related seminars and has authored papers for those organizations. He has focused his practice in the area of products liability litigation. Sam Cherry and his firm limit their representation to plaintiffs and do not represent manufacturers or insurance companies. Mr. Cherry has been instrumental in the development of product liability claims against manufacturers of defective aerial lift devices. It is generally recognized by lawyers familiar with bucket truck litigation that no lawyer in the United States has handled as many bucket truck cases, to verdict or settlement, as Sam Cherry and his firm. Through his efforts, victims and families have received compensation for their losses arising out of "boom contact" accidents, and many countless others have benefited from safer designs of the products. In fact, at least one manufacturer admittedly engaged in a retrofit program as a direct result of the firm's litigation against the bucket truck industry. Mr. Cherry proudly accepts the title of the "Lineman's Lawyer and Best Friend." He takes pride in the fact that his firm's efforts in product liability claims against this industry have resulted in safer aerial lift devices. Successful litigation of these claims requires considerable specialization and expertise. In order to properly evaluate the potential of a products liability claim arising from an electrical accident the lawyer must have a good understanding of the applicable work rules and what a lineman's job is; OSHA and ANSI standards; product capabilities; principles of electricity; and insulating capabilities of various dielectric materials. Sam Cherry and his firm have the experience and knowledge necessary to meet these requirements and more. As illustrated by the bucket truck cases our firm has handled throughout America, our firm is uniquely qualified to evaluate whether or not a given electrical accident scenario may give rise to a viable product liability claim. The firm welcomes inquiries from bucket truck accident victims, their families or lawyers. |
