Digger Derricks:

Digger Derrick

Digger Derricks are devices used by the telecommunications and electrical utility industry to install or replace distribution line poles.  The devices usually have an auger type attachment used for drilling holes for pole placement.  They also have powerful lifting capabilities for removing poles and holding and placing new poles. While a digger derrick is not generally considered an insulated aerial device, some manufacturers offer as an option a bucket attachment with insulated sections so that the digger derrick will become a multi-purpose piece of equipment and capable of performing live line maintenance work. Successful product liability claims have been made in cases where these devices have been involved in boom tip contact accidents resulting in serious injuries to operators.
